Akai, long time producers of hardware samplers, announced preliminary information at NAMM about their forthcoming V78 software sampler. With specifications of up to 24-bit/ 96kHz performance, extensive polyphony and modulation matrix, and 16 audio outputs, they state that the sampling engine of the VZ8 is almost indistinguishable from its hardware equivalent.
The V78 software sampler comes with over 30 different filters including 2, 4, and 6-pole lowpass plus various highpass, bandpass, notch, peak, and phase shifting filters. A voweliser and an assortment of combination filters are also featured as in their Z8 hardware sampler.
As on the original Z8, the special ‘triple’ filter mode which is also available and the V78 will work within a VST or Audio Unit host. With significant competition already established in the software sampler market, only time will tell if this one will have you reaching for your wallet.
