Apple Mac OS X Version 10.5 LeopardMay 30
Sonikmatter recently posted news about upcoming mLAN drivers. Well, it's now the end of May, and Yamaha have delivered on their promise of new drivers for Windows for their mLAN protocol. Early reports confirm that the infamous random offset bug has been fixed, with the driver using a new data transfer protocol with this new driver.
There is some disagreement among early users as to whether the driver uses more CPU or not, but it's difficult to make a direct comparison as the latency settings for mLAN have changed from a "ms" basis to a "per sample" basis. What most users have agreed on however, is that the new driver doesn't experience the same spikes as the earlier drivers and hence users are able to run much closer to "red-lining" their processors before seeing problems, which is good news.
Head on over to mLAN Central to pick up the new drivers, paying particular attention to the installation guide provided. mLAN can be a bit of an enigma to get working well, but this guide gives a comprehensive step by step tutorial to help get you up and running.
No news yet for Mac users with no announcements on either an upgrade to the current OSX driver or a driver for Intel Macs, though this is in line with Yamaha's statement on co-operation with Apple and product announcements.
