Apple Mac OS X Version 10.5 LeopardDec 18
Users of Yamaha's mLAN technology are getting a bit fed up with the state of things on OS X, and have launched a petition in an attempt to have long promised functionality of the standard delivered to users on the OS X platform.
The issues that they are asking to have addressed are:
(1) Sync from a device other than the Mac,
(2) No more CPU bursts,
(3) No more random offset,
(4) GP able to act as an actual patchbay.
(5) The new drivers should be backward compatible to at least Mac OS 10.4.4
(6) The new drivers should be compatible with PPC G4 and G5 computers
(7) The new drivers should be free for all present owners of Mlan equipment using Mac OS X
mLAN users under Windows finally had many similar issues fixed earlier this year with the release of 1.5.5 drivers, and while Yamaha and Apple have both acknowledged many of these issues under OSX, users are still left waiting for fixes and remain underwhelmed by the mLAN technology.
Some of the issues (particularly the now infamous random offset) appear to affect users of a wide range of firewire audio interfaces that utilize from many different manufacturer's.
The petition has already collected 165 signatures in about a week. To sign the petition or simply to check it out, point your browser at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savemlanonthemac.
