Goodbye Mr Manchester

TonyWilson.gifAt 6:05pm on August 10 the electronic music industry lost one of it's most iconic figures. Tony Wilson, who was the man behind Factory Records and the Hacienda, died of a heart attack after a battle with kidney cancer.

Factory Records was the label behind Joy Division, New Order and The Happy Monday's, that really put the sound of Manchester onto the charts. The Hacienda nightclub was home to these bands, and is credited as being the birthplace of the rave scene and acid house music.

In 2002 the movie 24 Hour Party People was released as a semi-fictional account of Tony Wilson, Factory Records and the Hacienda.

Thanks Tony for the memories and the music.
