Apple Mac OS X Version 10.5 LeopardSep 2
OLPC is a nonprofit project aiming to develop a laptop that can be produced cheaply and be used in the special circumstances set by villages of developing countries. Dealing directly with governments, the goal is to get the laptops out among children, to facilitate their education with learning tools and internet access. One of the original criteria for success was to develop a machine that could be manufactured for US$100, and with a current production price of $140, they have come pretty close.
The project has been underway for some years now. As can be seen here, the prototype is now ready. To me, it looks like a toy that I would like my own children to have too, even if we're privileged enough to live in the richer parts of the world.
Lots of deals are already being made with 3rd world governments around the globe. For more info on this, visit the OLPC website.
