Radio-a-head

070930radiohead-album.jpgRadiohead, British postrock - indie - shoegazer - electronica - experimental rock pioneers, have announced the release of a new album called "In Rainbows", due out on october 10th. Big music news in itself, but to top it off, Thom Yorke and co use this release to challenge the ways of the music bizz as we know it. So far, it seems that they're distributing the album all by themselves. From their website, one can buy the album for £40 (US$80), in a deluxe package that includes the album on CD and 2xLP, as well as an enhanced CD with extra songs and artwork, plus a lyrics booklet and printed artwork and a download code for the album in digital format. In short: the works.

But, one can also opt for the download only version of the album (no extras included). This is priced at whatever you choose. You fill in the pricetag yourself, and when clicking the "?" next to the pricefield, you get a page saying "It's up to you". You can even click further ahead to get the expanded version: "No, really, it's up to you".

If you feel like getting the songs for free, just enter a big round "0", and you'll end up paying nothing. Out of good spirit, and in honour of the great trust that the band puts in their listeners through this act, I paid £5 (US$10).

See for yourself at Radiohead's In Rainbows website.
