Kurzweil:K2000

From Sonikmatter

(Redirected from K2000)

The K2000 was released in 1990 and raised the bar for the workstations of it's era. Featuring Kurzweil's proprietary VAST synthesis architecture, the K2000 was essentially a digital semi-modular synth.

Features

  • The K2000 featured true 24 note polyphony. Each note of polyphony could play back 1 sample, and up to 3 additional oscillators, or any of the 32 VAST algorithms.
  • Up to 64 MB RAM sampling memory
  • Optional sampling option, that could also act as a standalone A/D, gave digital I/O to the K2000 or could be used as a 2 channel drum trigger.
  • 8 MB of on board sounds
  • 2 additional 8MB ROM expansions available.
  • 16 channel multitimbrallity (All 16 MIDI Channels available at all times)
  • SCSI built in
  • 32 Channel Sequencer built in.

Support for the K2000 continued up until 2000, with the last operating system (3.87) being released. Options and parts are still available from Kurzweil, and because the newer synths are backwards compatible with the K2000, continuing development of sounds makes the K2000 still a powerful and relevant synth today.
