Kurzweil:Effect

From Sonikmatter

An Effect is a process that is applied to a signal to change it's characteristics. It is usually applied at the end of a processing chain, though this isn't the only place for Effects to be used. Effects can change the Tonality of a sound, the Dynamics of a sound, the Phase of a sound or it's Frequency, and usually several of these are affected at the same time.

Effects may be analog (such as the original Flange effect, or Plate chambers), or they can be digital, such as those found in most modern effects units. They are generally mathematical equations or electronic equivalents that change the signal characteristics.
