Kurzweil:Floppy Drive
From Sonikmatter
Kurzweils use standard 1.44 MB floppy drives with a slight modification. If you need to replace your floppy drive, Kurzweil suggests two models: Sony MP-F17W-02 and Samsung SFD-321B, preferring the Sony, but most floppy drives should work. However, floppy drives come from the factory pre-set for use in computers--the floppy drive ID# is set to 1 (one). Before you can use a standard floppy drive in your Kurzweil, you must set the drive ID# to 0 (zero). There will be a dip switch or jumper setting on the drive to do this. If there is no switch or jumper, get a standard floppy connector cable from an electronics supply store--the kind with two drive connectors--and plug the connector for drive B: instead of A: into your floppy drive. This will force the Kurzweil to recognize it as an ID # 0 (zero) drive.
When transporting your Kurzweil, the tech support staff recommends that you park the floppy drive heads to prevent damage. To do this: go to the [DISK] page, set "Current Disk:" to "Floppy", and press (LOAD) with no disk inserted. The Kurzweil will request that you insert a disk. At this point, turn the power OFF and your heads are parked. Another solution is to insert a junk floppy disk into the drive before transporting, but you run the risk of head damage if you drop the instrument. Hard disks don't need special procedures to park their heads, they do it automatically when you power off. (Information provided by José M. Lugo)
