Kurzweil:Gated Lowpass
From Sonikmatter
The Gated Lowpass filter is a single pole filter where the cutoff frequency is hardwired to the AMPENV or Amplitude Envelope. When the envelope is fully open, the cutoff frequency will be high. You can also use the standard controls inside of the Gated Lowpass block to control the cutoff frequency. This filter occupies only a single block of processing.
The effect of this filter is that high frequency's will be attenuated as the envelope lower's the amplitude of the sound. This can create an abrupt change in the sound in a similar way to what a gated reverb does.
This filter can also be used effectively with pads where you want the sound to fade out slowly. This filter will allow you to fade the highest frequency's out first, which can make for very smooth note and sound transitions.
The concept of the Gated Lowpass DSP block was inspired by the Buchla 292 Quad Lowpass Gate module for their 200 series modular synthesizer. Although this module allowed the user to disconnect the filtering and amplifying functions, the module was almost always set to "both", as the resulting effect was noted to be very emulative of natural sounds.
