A Pad (style) is a type of sound that generally fades in and out slowly, and sustains for some time (usually while the keys are held down). It is generally a background sound. For examples listen to new age (genre), meditation (genre) or ambient (genre), such as Enya, Vangellis or The Orb. The sounds are usually harmonically rich and pleasing to the ear.

The types of samples often used to create Pad (style)s include strings, choir's, Sawtooth waves and occasionally, Filtered noise.
