Kurzweil:RAM Tracks
From Sonikmatter
RAM Tracks is Kurzweil's method of multitrack digital recording. Using RAM Tracks you can record audio from within, or outside of the K2500, K2600 or K2661. RAM Tracks is not available on the K2000.
RAM Tracks uses the Sampling Option to record the audio while a song is playing. RAM Tracks will not work unless a song is playing or recording. To record audio without a song playing, use the sampling mode.
Prior to using RAM Tracks the sampler will need to be configured. To do this:
Set the sampling however you desire. You can manually trigger the sampler by pressing Rec on this page (later) or you can set it up to be triggered by threshold or by a keypress. I'll assume that we'll set it manually.
- Set Input to Analog
- Set Src to External to record a signal through the jack's on the sampling option (this can also be done digitally) or Int to record the K2600's output.
- If you have the DIO option installed, then set Mode to A/D (Dir will not work)
- Set Mon to ON (to hear the output)
- Set the Time to be at least as long as the audio that you wish to record.
- Set sampling rate, and Mode to what is most appropriate for your recording.
- Set the gain to get the signal close to zero, but so that it doesn't [[clip}}
- Go to Song Mode, and call up a song with at least one empty track
- Make any adjustments on the Misc Page (such as click track etc)
- Set the RecTrk to an empty track
- Press Play
- Press Exit
- Press Master and then Sample
- Press Record to start sampling and stop when you have finished
- Select the Root Key when prompted (or accept Default, which will set the Rook Key to C4
- Press Yes to keep the sample, and name it.
- Press Yes when the K2600 asks you if you want to place it in a track, and then select which empty track. If you have previously recorded a RAM Track, you can place the new sample on the same track, as long as you use a different Trigger Key.
- The K2600 will then create a program and prompt you for the trigger key. Select the key you wish to use.
- If you go back to song mode you will see a new track has been created, and assigned to your RAM Track program
- Repeat this procedure for additional tracks. Each program can have up to 32 layers. If you want more tracks, then you will need to use a second Song Mode track.
