Kurzweil:Steep Bass Tone Control
From Sonikmatter
The Steep Bass Tone Control is a 3 block function, that is an extension to the Para Bass DSP Block.
The Steep Bass Tone Control is essentially the Para Bass function with a Two-pole Lowpass Filter added. The filter adds resonance around the cutoff frequency, but by adjusting the gain the bass end of the signal can still be boost or cut.
Smooth transition can be accomplished with a resonance of -6 dB, where the Steep Bass Tone Control acts similar to the Para Bass block, except that the cutoff sounds a little sharper, but by increasing the resonance, this block can be used as an alternative to the Two-pole Lowpass filter.
Sweeping frequency gives a similar effect to the Two-pole Lowpass filter, but by also modulating the gain, the characteristics of this filter can be changed dramatically, in ways not possible with the Two-pole Lowpass filter (or the Four-pole Lowpass with separation filter.
By adjusting the gain the Steep Bass Tone Control can effectively morph from a Highpass Filter (with minus gain) to a resonant bass booster. High frequencies pass through this filter relatively unaffected, though reducing the gain in the AMP block while increasing the gain in the Steep Bass Tone Control block will give a similar affect to standard Lowpass filters.
This block can be used both surgically, as a method of controlling bass frequencies or it can be used creatively as a replacement for other filters.
