Multi Instrument: Pasting text into a Patchlist
Double-clicking on a Multi Instrument opens the MIDI Program Patchlist. On the right of the window there is an "Options" button that has a Paste All Names Option. A text file can be used to paste patch names into the list using this option. In the case of Gigastudio, you can export the patchlist as text, send the file to your Logic computer, copy the text, paste it into the Multi Instrument patchlist and you're done!
Multi Instrument: Port/Channel selection
I always felt that Digital Performer had a superior way of choosing MIDI Ports/Channels until I figured out this Screenset.
- Select an unused Screenset
- Make sure to have the Arrange Window open for this Screenset
- Open an Environment Window
- Go to the Layer that contains your MIDI Multi Instruments
- Close (uncheck) the Parameters for the Environment Window (View>Parameters)
- Arrange them so that there is some kind of organization
- Place the window just to the right of the tracks in the Arrange Window
- Close the Environment Window
- Open an Environment Window as Float (hold Option-select Windows>Environment from Arrange Window)
- Save this as a Screenset
Now you can use cmd+right-click on a channel to select a Port/Channel for the Track that is selected in the Arrange Window.
-or-
Double-click on a Port/Channel and select a Program # for that Port/Channel
You are also able to Drag-n-Drop single channels or entire Ports in the Arrange Window Tracks. Dragging a single channel changes the selected track to that channel, dragging a Port creates new channels.
Window Scrolling
Hold Ctrl-Shift, press mouse down in window and drag in any direction. It may take a bit to get used to but you will find this can free up some Key Commands.
Chord Memorizer: Scales
The Chord Memorizer can also be used to create scales instead of chords so that you are able to "strum" on the white keys and hit all the notes of a scale. Here is an example of a whole tone scale routed to the white keys.
- C - C
- D - D
- E - E
- F - F#
- G - G#
- A - A#
- B - deselected
Touch Tracks: Organizing Sequences
A Folder is a good container for Sequences that are to be triggered by Touch Tracks. This way you can keep the Arrange Window less cluttered if you're not going to be using the Sequences separate from triggering them.
NOTE: Touch Tracks only work when the sequencer is in Play or Record.
Markers: Adding color to Markers
Select a Marker in the Marker Track, from the Arrange Menu Pull-Down: View>Colors...
Beat Mapping: Create a Conductor Track
Most likely you will want to turn the Metronome off before you begin. You can start with any MIDI or Audio Instrument Track to record.
1. Put Logic into Record and start hitting a key or MIDI trigger.
2. From the Arrange Window's Pull-down Menu: View>Global Track Components>Beat Mapping
3. Make sure the Sequence Object you just created is selected.
4. On the Beat Mapping Track, select Beats from Rgn
Automation Folder: View used Tracks only
When the Automation Folder is opened it will show all available tracks according to your Environment. This means there could be several hundred tracks that show up. If you only want to view Tracks that have Automation Data on them, set a key command for "Delete unused Tracks." This is a non-destructive delete, it only removes unused tracks from view, it does not physically delete them.
