Creating an On/Off switch for a Macro:

A Macro can be put in serial with the Physical Input and Sequencer Input, sometimes you don't want to use that Macro and would have to disconnect the cables so putting an On/Off switch makes it easier.
First you have to decide whether the switch is going to be outside or inside the Macro. If it is going to be inside the Macro then you have to know what the Macro-In and Macro-Out devices are, if it is not labled then the Object to the most upper-left is Macro-In and the Object to the most lower-right is Macro-Out when the Macro is unpacked. If you do unpack the Macro and the Macro-In/Macro-Out Objects aren't labled, for this tutorial I will assume you name them Macro-In/Macro-Out since I will be referring to them as that.

Objects needed:

  1. Button ( Environment Window Pull-down: New>Fader >Button)
  2. Cable Switcher ( Environment Window Pull-down: New>Fader >Specials > Cable Switcher)

Switch for packed Macro:

  1. Label the Button "On/Off"
  2. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Button and drop it on the Cable Switcher.
  3. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Physical Input (Sum) and drop it on the Cable Switcher.
  4. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Cable Switcher and drop it on the Sequencer Input (or "to Recording & Thru Object)
  5. Using the mouse, grab the second triangle from the right of the Cable Switcher and drop it on the Macro.

That's it. Now when the button is off the MIDI basically goes straight from the Physical Input to the Sequencer Input. When the button is on it goes through the Macro.

Switch for unpacked Macro:

  1. If the Macro is already unpacked, skip to #2. If the Macro is not yet unpacked, double-click outside of an Object in the Macro, if that is difficult you can make the Macro Object larger so you can get to an area that doesn't have an Object by grabbing the little white square at the bottom right corner of the Macro and drag it to resize. Once you have double-clicked you will be prompted to unpack or cancel. WARNING: Make sure you have enough empty space in the Environment Window for the Macro to unpack. Some Macros may have a lot of Objects and cables, when it is unpacked they may get confused with other Objects that weren't with the Macro.
  2. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Button and drop it on the Cable Switcher.
  3. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Cable Switcher and drop it on the Macro-Out Object.
  4. Using the mouse, grab the second triangle from the right of the Cable Switcher and drop it on the Macro-In Object.
  5. Rename the Macro-In Object to "In"
  6. Rename the Cable Switcher to "Macro-In"
  7. Organize the Objects to best suit how you want it to look. Remeber that it is most ideal to have any Objects that you need to see in the Macro in the upper-left before packing. This is so that when you resize the Macro those can be the only Objects left showing.
  8. Pack the Macro (Environment Window Pull-down: New>Macro
  9. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Physical Input (Sum) and drop it on the Macro.
  10. Using the mouse, grab the first triangle from the top right of the Macro and drop it on the Sequencer Input (or "to Recording & Thru Object).

That's it. Now when the Button is off the MIDI basically goes through the Macro unprocessed from the Physical Input to the Sequencer Input. When the Button is on it goes through the process in Macro.
