Logic:Tutorial- Modular Macro
From Sonikmatter
One of the issues with adding Macros or really any Object between the Physical Input and Sequencer Input (or "to Recording & Thru Object") is cabling and organization. This tutorial will show one way of using a Cable Switcher and a Text Fader to create a Macro router.
Clearing the way:
- Open a New Song and save it named as you like.
- Open the Environment Window, go to the Click & Ports Layer.
- Cut all objects except the Physical Input, Sequencer Input (might be named "Recording & Thru Object" but will be referred to as Sequencer Input from now on) and MIDI Click (Metronome).
Objects needed:
| Autoload.lso Environment |
| New ∇ | Edit ∇ | View ∇ | Options ∇ |
Using the Environment Pull-down Menu: New> -Create the following Objects
- 4 Ornaments named Macro In 1 through 4 (these are just place holders for the cables)
- 1 Text Fader
- 1 Cable Switcher
Setup Objects:
- Double-click on the Text Fader to open it's parameters.
- Double-click in the first value box under "Value Names of Text 'Fader':"
- Name the first box "Thru" and the next 4 boxes Macro 1 through Macro 4.
- Put a check in the box labeled "Behave as Menu" at the top.
- Close the Text Fader Parameter box.
- Select the Cable Switcher
- In the Parameter box for the Cable Switcher, change Range: 0 127 to Range: 0 4
Cabling
- Grab the triangle at the very top of the Physical Input (Sum) and drop it on the Cable Switcher to make a connection.
- Grab the triangle at the very top of the Cable Switcher and drop it on the Sequencer Input Object to make a connection.
- Grab the 2nd triangle from the Cable Switcher and drop it on the first Ornament (Macro In 1).
- Grab the 3rd triangle from the Cable Switcher and drop it on the second Ornament (Macro In 2).
- Grab the 4th triangle from the Cable Switcher and drop it on the second Ornament (Macro In 3).
- Grab the 5th triangle from the [[Logic:Environment Object-|]] and drop it on the second Ornament (Macro In 4).
Name the Text Fader and the [[Logic:Environment Object-|]] as you like and organize the Objects to your liking.
Now you have a modular Ornament setup. For any Ornament or Object that you would like to connect, either use one of the Ornament output cables or just drag the cable going into the Ornament and drop it on the Ornament or Object that you want to replace it with, cut the Ornament if you like. DO NOT cut the Ornament first, this may rearrange the order of the cables coming out of the Cable Switcher. Be sure to connect the Output of the Ornament or Object to the Sequencer Input to complete the Input Chain. Make your selection on which route your input should take to the Sequencer Input by using the Text Fader. To rename labels on the Fader, there is a spot in the lower right of the Text Fader that when double-clicked will open the properties, it may take several tries to find it.
A simple test to see it working is just to switch to something other than Thru, play your Midi Device and there will be no sound because the cable chain is not complete.
